Fueled By Solar Power

Ahhh. What a difference a little bit of sun and warmth can make. January is my very least favorite month of the year. Here, in Northern California, it is our Winter. Yeah, we don't have much to complain about, I know. Temperate weather almost year-round, no snow, no summer humidity or rain. Whatever. I live here for a reason, okay.

When it is as cold as it has been the past four weeks, my California native blood reacts negatively. I hate jackets and layers. But you know what? That's not really the problem. The problem is that I want to work on assembling the back wall of my Bottle Cap Bar and the only place where I have enough room to do that is in my garage. And even with the area rug we recently added it is just way to cold to work out there. I can't feel my fingers. You dig?

So, instead of doing the garage-appropriate tasks I would like to be doing right now I have been holing myself up in my "office" with a space heater blasting and doing whatever I can do in that small space that still keeps me moving forward on this project. Which in itself is all good but frustrating none-the-less.

I wanna be warm! I wanna feel the sun on my face! I wanna not have to wear hats and gloves and insulated vests. And today I got that wish. It's sunny and warm. Close to 60 degrees I'd bet. So, this afternoon, after I got home from some morning appointments I did a little work in the garage. Hooray!

I didn't work on the Bottle Cap Bar but I did do some other things that I'd been wanting to finish up and that felt really good. Just get it off my plate. Let's hope this lasts for a little while.

On another topic. I have been reading lately this really great book that my friend Julie recommended, "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle. I actually read it last month and am reading it again to reinforce some of the ideas that really resonated with me. I am finding it very helpful and enjoyable.

Here's a passage that has stuck with me. It's from a section titled "Chaos and Higher Order" and given my interest in order and chaos that's not much of a surprise.

Behind the sometimes seemingly random or even chaotic succession of events in our lives as well as in the world lies concealed the unfolding of a higher order and purpose. This is beautifully expressed in the Zen saying "The snow falls, each flake in its appropriate place." We can never understand this higher order through thinking about it because whatever we think about is content; whereas, the higher order emanates from the formless realm of consciousness, from universal intelligence. But we can glimpse it, and more than that, align ourselves with it, which means be conscious participants in the unfolding of that higher purpose.

I find that to be very comforting, knowing that there is more to our existence then just what we do in our day to day lives. It gives more purpose and meaning to things that sometimes can seem rather meaningless.

Happy New Year

Well it's the new year and the bottle caps are starting to come in again. The holidays were great but it's time for me to get back to work. Lots to do and it's all very fun, scary and exciting. First on the agenda is apply for a grant. I'm seeing if I can get funding for this little art project of mine.

As for the bottle caps, yesterday and today I received another 1,600 or so along with word that another 2,500+ are "in the mail." Yowza! Back to sorting. Oh well, it's fun and fortunately I still seem to have people willing to help me with that. Weirdos!

Website Recommendation of the Day:

Beer Caps Game

One of the fine people who have sent me bottle caps emailed me a link to this website. It's a pretty fun game even if you aren't obsessed with bottle caps like I am. Is it strange that I am familiar with all of the bottle caps pictured? Nah.
