Coming Home To Unexpected Houseguests
Got back from Mexico last Friday. Oh, it was such a great two weeks. Loved Sayulita, loved the Nayarit coast. Did the usual. Swam, surfed, sunned. Hiked, boated, explored. Ate, drank, shopped. And most importantly - we Relaxed. I cannot stress enough how great that siesta time in the afternoon is.
Anyway, funny thing was when we arrived home on Friday we found that a family had taken up residency while we were gone. A cute little bird couple decided to build a nest in the wreath that is hanging on our front door. And it's currently filled with eggs. So, not only do we have these new residents but now we can't use our front door. Oh well. It's all for the good of nature.
So, back home and back to the usual worries and wonders related to my fledgling art career. But I do have a couple of updates for you. First of all Progression Structure #8 was successfully picked up by the moving company. I stood at the top of my driveway and watched until it was fully loaded on and strapped into the truck. Then I could breathe again. Actually it was no big deal with a pallet jack and a lift on the truck. Unfortunately those were things the shipping company that was originally supposed to pick up the sculpture was lacking and that was the cause of all that last minute scrambling and worrying.
Then I breathed an even deeper sigh of relief when I got an email from Sioux Falls on April 11 saying the sculpture had arrived. Hopefully there will be no problems on their end installing the piece and it will look super awesome when I go to see it on May 4th. Boy am I glad that's all over with.
Also, right before I left I finalized my contract with Burning Man for my Bottle Cap Tree. I am happy to report that I was approved for funding and the tree is now officially a part of the Man Grove. I feel honored because they don't usually award grants to first-time Burners. Thousands of people will see my little tree. Pretty exciting and, not to mention, Way Scary.
Now I gotta figure out how in the heck to make this thing. At least I've got a lot of the structure completed but I have so much more to do and so many more details to work out to make sure that it's a secure and stable structure. It's starting to keep me up at night thinking about it and I have only been back three days! Fortunately I've got a cool team of people to help. We Will Make It Work.
But I can't really think about all of that now because I am working all this week at the winery to make up for my vacation time off. I am there right now, actually, so I'd better wrap this up. Next week it's back to business in the studio.
When I have time I'll post a couple of beauty shots from Mexico as well as the latest images of the Bottle Cap Tree.
Adios Amigos!
What I Loved About Mexico Mention of the Day: Fresh Corn Tortillas
Every morning you could buy a kilo (a little over 2 pounds) of fresh corn tortillas from the tortilleria for 8.50 pesos which is about 78 cents with the current exchange rate. We could barely get through them before they started to get a little dry, by about the third day. The best was eating them the morning we got them. Man, I gotta find a tortilleria around here.
